At EventStable, you ask and we answer. Many of our prospective customers are either starting new event rental companies or event facilities. Being new to the business, they find themselves searching for the best banquet tables for their events. Updated August 2019 with video!
That said, we aim to answer a common question: What's The Average Size of a Banquet Table?
The answer isn't so simple. The term "banquet table" can mean different things to different people. To some, a banquet table is any table used for special events. For others, a banquet table is specifically a rectangular table, usually six or eight feet long.
Banquet Table Length
I'd say most commonly, folding tables are considered banquet tables when they are of rectangular shape, and anywhere from four feet to 8 feet long.
At EventStable, you can buy banquet tables in lengths of 4', 5', 6', or 8'. Six and eight foot lengths, whether it's plastic or wood, are the most popular. Having said that, you’ll most certainly find uses for the shorter tables, like our 4’ x 30’’ Titan Series™ Wood Folding Table.
Banquet Table Width
Standard banquet tables are 30'' wide. This width allows for intimate conversation, and for place settings to exist on both sides of the table. The convenient 30’’ width also allows you to place the tables end-to-end to create long rows,a commonly used practice.
If you’re looking outfit your venue with this type of setup, expect to sit 4 guests on each side of the 8 foot banquet table and 3 guests per side on a 6 foot table. If you’re not setting tables end-to-end, you can sit an additional guest on the ends of each table for more casual affairs.

30'' wide tables are also good for buffet lines, as most people can reach across the table to reach their food, or in my case to empty out the bowl of Alaskan King Crab legs.
Increasingly popular however are wide banquet tables. Widths of 36'' (wide), 40'' (queen), and 48'' (king) have become big sellers for family style service.
Most banquet tables you will find are at standard dining height, which is 29''-30''.
Every so often, you'll also find a need for a table that is a little higher or a little lower. In this case, consider an adjustable height banquet table. You can also experiment with making your plywood banquet tables higher using 1'' PVC pipe.
